What online project collaboration software do you recommend for managing client projects?
Q. I am looking for a hosted project collaboration tool to manage my client projects. Some of my requirements are: 1. It must be intuitive and easy to use. 2. It must have basic project management features like tasks and milestones with the ability to specify due dates. 3. I would like to be able to brand it so it looks like my company. 4. Integration with email would be great too since I know I probably won't be able to get some of my clients to use the tool. Any recommendations?

A. Some products to consider are: Basecamp: Central Desktop: TeamWork Live: They are all hosted, easy to use, and all allow you to brand the site. Basecamp is the simplest to learn but it has limited project management features. Note that you do not have the ability to assign due dates to to-do items in Basecamp. Central Desktop is the most full-featured of the three: it includes many additional features like online databases, customizable pages, and web meetings (costs extra). The amount of features makes it harder to learn, though, which might be a problem if you are using this with clients. My personal favorite is TeamWork Live: it has Basecamp's ease of use but it is much more full-featured. It is also fully integrated with… [cont.]

How should i pay a project manager for property development?
Q. I am about to hire a project manager (foreman) who will be responsible for day to day activities in a real estate project. The project involves converting a multi unit to condo with parking lot. The soon to be foreman is currently a contractor but i know he has the raw skill to manage a project. I am just not sure how to pay him. Per hour? Per week, per month. Or agreed upon fee for the duration of the project?
Asked by kizito2001 - Tue Jul 29 12:01:38 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. In my experience, They are to be paid by an agreed upon amount bi-monthly. Then a lump sum bonus when project is complete (i.e. an estimated 6 month project, salary not to exceed $60,000 @$5000 2 times per month) Upon project completion, 15% bonus if completed early or 5% within one week of projected finish or no bonus if completed more than "X" number of days past estimated completion date.) This will give you both a good idea the maximum amount paid out for budgeting purposes.

What can this project manager do to energize their project team?
Q. Scenario: You are introduced to a project manager, who does not have authority to give a pay raise or promote a project team member. This project manager can report poor performance of a team member to the employee s manager. The project manager also does not control the budget. Product management allocates the budget. With this information, what can this project manager do to energize their project team? Any thoughts on this?

A. Get everybody together - look at the task at hand - have a few at the local pub and talk shop - Break down any beariors that might hinder working together - Get people working together and doing what each person does best - Once the project is underway then keep it going - Meet each others families - And above all Don't complain about another person to anyone else except that person.

What is a good science fair project for environmental engineering?
Q. Science fair projects are meant to solve problems, not to show how something works. I'd like to do a science fair project in the category of engineering using my LEGO Mindstorms robotics kit. The judges at the science fair especially like environmental projects, so I want to do an environmental engineering project. An example would be "What alternative energy source is the most efficient: water, wind, or geothermal?" Something like that would be good. If you have any ideas, I would greatly appreciate to see them.

A. Put a solar panel on the robot. Use the controller for the robot to make it move around using the suns energy. Say this should be the use of energy for cars, making them run by electricity. If they ask about nighttime, give the example of a glow-in-the-dark magnet. It gathers the energy it needs during the day. uses it at night. Also use the example about the terrible oil spill in the gulf of mexico thats going on right now. Say that would be abolished if we were to use an alternative energy source for our cars and machines, aka the suns energy.Don't know much about enviormental engineering, but I think this falls into that catagory. Not very original but good examples for it are here.

What hypothesis could I test for a project involving the ripening of fruit?
Q. I need a hypothesis for my project involving fruit ripening, but I can't use the same one as the project my project is based off of. The one my project is based off of is called "Does one bad apple spoil the whole bunch?" Basically, does one ripe apple cause other unripe to become ripe? I can't do that. I need a different hypothesis. Please Help Asap. Thx.

A. As tomatoes or other green fruit ripen they produce carotenoid pigments that greatly influence the quality because they contribute to the color and food value. This is regulated by certain light spectra influencing phytochromes independent of ethylene ripening. Ripen them in darkness, or darkness interrupted by by daily pulses of red light 650-660nm, or red light followed by far red light for 15 days. Alternately wrap tgreen fruit in 1,2, or 3 layers of light transmissible cloth. More cloth less light. Expose the green fruit to red light. Hypothesis is that increasing shade will markedly reduced ripening, causing reduced sugar so the fruit will not be as sweet. Incandescent light bulbs emit far more invisible infrared (IR) and… [cont.]

How can I make my project quantative instead or qualitative?
Q. For school I'm planning on doing a project on peoples reactions and behaviors. It's simple. I just need to see how will people react to different fashions/"labels" (goth, prep, nerd, tomboy etc.) at the mall, when asking them for the time or spare change. But seeing their reactions would be considered a quality, and i need to find a way to measure something in the project. Is there anyway to make my project more advanced that will involve some sort of measurement?( and counting the people whom respond positively and negatively doesn't count. My science teacher said there is a way, yet refuses to hint me, or help me with it.
Asked by n3trra - Fri Sep 7 17:42:09 2007 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Can you breakdown the people who responded negatively or positively into its own category? For instance percentage of males vs females who responded positively or negatively. Or how about breaking it down by age. What percentage of people ages 15-18, 19-25, 25-30, 30 and above etc responded positively or negatively. Or you can ask people to rate their negative or positive responses, instead of just a like or dislike reply. For instance on a scale of 1 to 5, 1 being really negative and 5 being positive, how do you feel about the terms/labels goth, prep etc.

To begin with - What are advantages and disadvantages of supersonic travel. What modern and futuristic technologies could be used to make a supersonic commercial aircraft? This project will be multi disciplined involving engineering, science, economics and art! I would do it...I may actually do but these days being brown skinned and working on aircraft is inviting trouble! Hahahahaha

How can I project my self confidence without being arrogant?
Q. I'd like to improve the way people view me, and I'd heard that projecting your self confidence can help greatly. Unfortunately, every time I try, when I look back on the attempt, it seems like I'm being arrogant, or just not doing something right. Anyone have any ideas on how to improve my ability to project my self confidence, or a list of positive signs of someone with self confidence? In response to jared, that would be considered more as an arrogant thing, in the sense that you aren't respecting the girl at all.
Asked by john s - Thu Jan 29 21:32:21 2009 - - 2 Answers - 1 Comments

A. I think there is way to project self confidence without being rude or arrogant. Here are some thoughts: - Never be the one to chase after a girl. if you like her, ask her out and she doesn't respond then move on to the next. If you call her and she doesn't call back...don't call back a couple more times. If she doesnt call back then don't wait on her - Smile often and say hello to people...try to be outgoing if you can. Provide complements to women-- you look nice today, your hair is different--looks good, you are wearing a nice perfume, etc. Don't over-do it, just try making a complement or two when you can - Walk tall and not too fast...don't strut though. Like a fighter pilot walking out to his plane before takeoff or… [cont.]

What would be the hypothesis to my scince fair project?
Q. I am doing a project on the decline of native oysters in the chesapeke bay for my science expo. I know for a science project you need a hypothesis but my project isnt an experiment its sort of a research project. The data i have is from the number of oysters form the 1900,s till now and my project is based on the debate of weather or no to introduce a non-native species into the chesapeake bay. Asked by life... - Sun Dec 2 00:14:38 2007 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. There is no harm in forming a hypothesis. One thing that will help demonstrate your understanding of the scientific method is that you may conclude that you cannot prove or disprove your hypothesis. There is never a guarantee in any scientific research that the hypothesis will be fully tested, and when you are dealing with a complex problem this is likely. The idea is that when you finish you may actually have a different hypothesis. A common and time-tested conclusion is that more work is needed, and to propose some new ways to test the hypothesis. One good way to approach a project like you are planning is to form multiple working hypotheses. The next step is to decide how you can test these different hypotheses. I can form some… [cont.]

A. This is the year 2010. Cost in 2010 = 18 Cost in 2011 = 18 - 18 x 6% +18 x 4% = 18 (1-0.02), let us call this A Cost in 2012 = A - A x 0.02 = A (1-0.02) = 18 (1-0.02)^2 .. Cost in 2018 = 18 (1-0.02)^8 Hopefully I am right.
