Sako 85 synthetic stainless or finnlight what is the difference?
Q. I am going to buy a new Sako rifle in 25-06 for small pig shooting what is the better gun out of the SS and Finnlight? What affect will the groves in the barrel have on the rifle apart from less weight? Magazine bottom and trigger guard are made of hard anodized aluminium for on the finnlight. How is that different to the steel on the synthetic stainless? If you hade to have one of these rifles wich one would you get? thank you

A. I'd not worry about the Al and get the lighter rifle, but then I'd get it in 260 Rem or 7mm08. You'll appreciate the lighter weight in pig shooting, and even the few ounces saved with the SM action will make a little difference.

What can I expect to pay for a Tikka T3 Tactical W / Sako muzzle brake?
Q. Also, what would be a good 2 -3 hundred yard scope for less than 500.00
Asked by Mow Your Own Lawn - Fri May 30 12:08:12 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. for the rifle you will probably be spending around $1400. also, what caliber are you getting it chambered in to necessitate the use of a muzzle brake? .223 and .308 will not be that bad and you may be able to save some $$$ that you could add to your scope budget by leaving it off as for a decent scope under $500...i will start by saying that quality glass is very important and you will be severly limiting the capabilities of the rifle by purchasing a cheap scope...but in my opinion and expirience most nikon glass is very good for the money and will fit your budget. great clarity and holds zero very well.

What are the similarities between the sako and tikka T3??
Q. What mechanisms are the same or similar ie: barrel, action? and does any one have any opinions on the .260 in Tikka T3 lite SS? Thanks
Asked by AussieGuy - Wed Aug 27 18:30:21 2008 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. The quality of marksmanship etc. between the two brands are for all intensive purposes identical. They are all made in the same factory, with the same machines, on the same lines. The only difference is with bells and whistles type quality. With the Tikka, all the actions are the same size to reduce production cost, this means the same accuracy, for cheaper. As well, the Sako has more of a "handcrafted" feel to it. So if you are looking for a really detailed stock etc, go with the Sako. All Sako/Tikka guns are factory tested for their promised shot group diameter. You can't go wrong with either. I own a T3 Lite .308 blued BTW P.S. Something I want to add: When I bought my T3, several of the store employs said that it was an excellent… [cont.]

which rifle is better Accuracy International Arctic Warfare Magnum or sako TRG-42?
Q. as far as range, accuracy, reliability, and cost both rifles are chambered the .300 win mag
Asked by Jack A - Thu May 21 18:57:17 2009 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. I have shot both rifles and they are equal in terms of range and reliability. Mechanical accuracy is probably about equal, practical accuracy will depend on the shooter, some people will be a little better with the Sako and others (myself included) will be better with the AI. The Sako does cost less than the AI but the AI is easier to service.

Is the sako 85 barvarian a good gun?
Q. I have always went with a wetherby but I have heard a lot of great thangs about sako And I am wanting a 7mm mag
Asked by JP - Fri Jan 29 02:22:10 2010 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. The Sako 85 series are absolutely world class rifles, and though of a different style they would complement a Weatherby Mark V well. Everything you have probably heard about the quality and abilities of the 85 is what their reputation is built on;rugged good looks, solid actions, precise fit, wonderful accuracy with precision forged and machined barrels. I wish I could afford to get one! You might want to look at models other than the Bavarian if you don't need open sights, similar to a Remington BDL,if you mount a scope the irons are redundant.

Q. the serial number is 94012, the reason for asking is I am thinking of selling it because it is a bit heavy for me to carry, if we do drives its not bad, but to carry it all day its hard.

A. Your best bet is to consult a local reputable gun dealer, particularly if you're lucky enough to have one who deals in Sako weapons, for a professional estimate of its' condition. He should have a copy of the Blue Book of Firearm values, which will give you a fair estimate of its' market value. You might also try www.gunbroker.com, as well.

Q. Sako 75 ?
Asked by Ean Erskine - Thu Apr 9 18:45:45 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. I bought one for one of my left-handed kids some years back, a left-handed action in 7mm08, and the more I shot it (working up handloads) the more I liked it, though I'm right-handed. Fit and finish were excellent, operation was flawless, and I didn't even need to adjust the trigger. When he shot his first group, I couldn't make out where all the first three bullets went, so I asked him to shoot at the twelve-o'clock on the bullseye (1" dot at 100 yards). I framed that target, with three touching, one a quarter inch off center at 8 o'clock in the bullseye and one at the 12 o'clock edge of the bullseye.

Sako TRG-S338 in 338 Lapua Magnum, any aftermarket stocks?
Q. Love the gun but the black synthetic stock is not attractive. This is the hunter's version mind you, not the TRG sniper model. Sure wouldn't mind a TRG stock or look-alike. Are there any manufacturers that make aftermarket improved stocks for this gun? Something that looks tacticool would be nice and synthetic, not wood, is a requirement. Please advise.

A. For a TRG stock .. I know you said no wood, but this link has some radical laminate stocks.. 's.htm I bought one a few years ago from them, would buy again.

Sako 85 vs Winchester model 70 vs Weatherby Mark v?
Q. Sako 85 vs Winchester model 70 vs Weatherby Mark v? Hi there, Which of the makes above are best. I'm talking about the quality of the steel, accuracy & bolt smoothnes. BTW, it's in 270 caliber if that is of any importance to the question. Thanx a million.
Asked by MarkSpark - Mon Jun 28 14:45:31 2010 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments

A. If buying for yourself, choose rifle you prefer. All three rifles listed are of fine quality. Pick one that you can hold, handle, bring up to cheek, and aim with the best. Other considerations are length, weight, finish, bolt operation, magazine loading/unloading, fit to cheek viewing with a scope. Bragging rights, that, if at all.

Is the Sako 85 Kodiak barrel to short for the .375 H&H magnum round?
Q. Looking at getting a .375 H&H for buffalo hunting. I like the look of the Sako 85 Kodiak but the barrel lenght is concerning me is it to short? what effect will the shorter barrel have?
Asked by hunter - Sat Nov 21 19:02:26 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Not enough length to burn most of all the powder content. Magnums need atleast 24 inches and beyond to get that added velocity and powder burn. Otherwise that extra powder is just a waste. Shorter barrels are for 308 cases and smaller, with little powder capacity.

A. Full Stock Model Vixen: - short action. 100%--- -98%--- -95%--- -90%--- -80%--- -70%--- -60% $1,050-- $925--- $775--- $700--- $525--- $450--- $400 L-46 action pre-Vixen Sakos had detachable mags. The good or bad thing about Sako is that all of their rifles pretty much range in this area. Im not sure what reasonable means in the percentage terms but I would be guessing at around 85-90% which would make it worth along the lines of $600-$700 dollars. I hope this helps! Good Luck & Happy Shooting !

A. As close as I can come is a 75 in 7mm08 that I gave one of my kids for a birthday. I spent a few weeks at the bench, and when I gave him the rifle, his first group with my handloads were all touching. I suggested he frame the target and never shoot the rifle again, but he took me up only on the first half of the suggestion.

Is the Sako 85 a good rifle?
Q. Or is the model 75 much better?
Asked by Josey W - Mon May 3 08:04:29 2010 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Allow me to give you the straight dope on the Sako rifles. First we have to take a walk down memory lane. After World War 2, the USA was the only industrialized nation that was still standing. The other countries in Europe were bombed to bits. The result of this was that US manufacturing businesses pretty much rebuilt the world - and along with it, good paying jobs were created for US servicemen and women returning home from the war. This continued went on from 1945 to 1975. The point I am trying to make here is that American had loads of money and the US Dollar was a strong currency in the world markets. Sako had been around as a Finnish rifle maker for many years. But, it was in 1961, when they offered their model 61 Finnbear… [cont.]

kimber or weatherby or sako?
Q. I need a good quality rifle for my son who is starting to get more serious about hunting. I am concerning the Kimber, Weatherby or Sako. What do you thing? Any others?
Asked by Lou B - Thu Jan 17 13:05:47 2008 - - 10 Answers - 0 Comments

A. I would go with a Kimber. I own one of their 1911 pistols and I would recommend them to anyone. I have shot a super america rifle of theirs that a friend of mine has and it was an awesome gun. Their prices aren't outrageous either. Weatherbys are nice but most of their rifles are in their magnum cartridges. I do not care for the weatherby cartridges and therefore have never bought a weatherby. I would go with a Kimber, American Made and the arguably the best quality mass produced rifles out there.
