How good is 1000 yards rushing in a season?
Q. I am a freshman football fullback. We are 1-7, I know, not that great. But I have rushed for over 100 yards almost every game, and am hoping on breaking 1000 at our last game. I was just wondering if 1000 yards is really that big of a deal?

A. I used 2 yards for my son's twin size bed and it hung over slightly on all sides. So based on that i would say your looking at 5 yards at least. Maybe more if you want it to hang over the bed more. The best way to tell is to have someone help you measure the bed and how much you want to hang down on all sides once you get the measurement in inches /12 to get the number of feet. then /3 to get the number of yards you'll need. EX. the bed is 144 inches long/12 = 12/3 = 4 yards then you have to figure out how much to make it across the bed. EX. if The bolt of fabric is 56" (not all are the same). your bed is 168 in wide = 168"/56" = 3 now take your width and lenght and mult. together 3x4 - 12 yards total make sur to take into… [cont.]

A. A full size mattress is 54" wide, so the headboard is wider than that. Home decorating fabric is 54" wide (left to right) If you railroad the fabric, meaning you turn the fabric so the 54" is running vertically,(top to bottom), then you will need 3.5 to 4 yards of fabric, depending on how thick the headboard is. This is only if the fabric is solid or has a pattern that can be turned on it's side. Working the fabric in this way eliminates seams on the front of the headboard. Otherwise, you will have to sew seams in the fabric to match up the pattern so the fabric will now be wide enough to cover the headboard. How many yards are in 1 ton of 3/4 drainage gravel?
Q. I need to buy some gravel for various jobs around the house. Examples are putting drainage pipes around the yard and making a cement patio, putting some under my deck to clean it up etc. Every place I call goes by tons and all I know is I need about 10 yards. Can anyone give me an approximation as to how many yards are in 1 ton of 3/4 drainage gravel?
Asked by DaveC - Tue Apr 15 11:37:20 2008 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments
A. At an average of 100 lbs/cu ft, there is approximately 20 cu. ft. of gravel in a ton. Since a yard contains 27 cu ft. (3x3x3), you have 20/27 yards, or approximately 3/4 yard. Hope this helps.

How many yards of fabric is needed for a cloak?
Q. For abour 5'2 that goes to ankels- I was thinking that if the yards are at least 36in by 36in then I could 3 yards-excluding the hood! Would that work? The height would go approxminately 54-56 inches high-that's including draping over my shoulder.
Asked by a - Sun Nov 1 00:50:44 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Depends on the design of the cloak. If you're making a rectangular cloak (which is easy, but doesn't hang as well as a semicircular or opera cloak), you'll need about 1.5 yard lengths of fabric for the cloak body, both inside and out (fabric and lining), and you'll need to sew together widths that will add up to 1.25 to 1.5 times the greatest circumference of the body. So for 36" wide fabric, you could cover a body at most about 29" in circumference with a single width. Check out the three cloak patterns here:

How many yards will 50 tons of topsoil cover?
Q. I think I need to order about 50 tons of topsoil. The topsoil is sold by the yard. I need to know how many yards will be covered by 50 tons. thanks. We'd like to spread it 3" thick. Our front yard measurements are 74x16, 74x93, and 17x33 (the landscaper we hired measured in 3 parts) Our backyard is 68x90. how do I figure out how many cubic yards of soil I need? Thanks so much!
Asked by mytidbitz - Wed Jun 4 19:03:32 2008 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments
A. depends on how deep you want it to be. the topsoil is actually sold by the cubic yard. If you want to cover your area to 1 foot, then 1 cubic yard of soil (3' by 3' by 3') will cover 3 square yards to a depth of 1 foot. to a depth of 6 inches, 1 cubic yard will cover 6 square yards. to a depth of 4 inches, 1 cubic yard will cover 9 square yards. to a depth of 2 inches, 1 cubic yard will cover 18 square yards. If it's sold by the (cubic) yard, why are you ordering it by the ton? If you buy it by the ton, you can have lots of variation. If it's wet, you will pay 2 or 3 times as much, as you are buying mostly water. Bottom line, calculate the area you want to cover. Say it's 100' by 200'. that 33 yards by 67 yards. Multiply together… [cont.]

How many cubic yards of concrete should you order for the job?
Q. U-R preparing to order concrete for some footings at the plant where you work. Each of the cylindrical holes for the footings is 24 inches deep and 7.5 inches in diameter. A. 27 cu feet in 1 cu yd. One cubic yard is equal to 27 ft X 1 ft X 1 ft., so 1/2 cu yard is equal to 13.5 ft X 1 ft X 1 ft. Footing is 24 inches deep so now we have 6.75 ft X 1 ft X 2 ft. To calculate area of a circle, formula is a=pi (r X r). r = 3.75 3.14 X 3.75 X 3.75 = 44.156 sq inches. 144 sq inches in a sq foot, so approximately .3 sq ft for area. Each 1/2 yard should do about 20 holes.

How many rushing yards will Steven Jackson get next season?
Q. With the new addition to Al Saunders as the offensive corridenator (the wide reciever coach for the greatest show on turf 1999-2001) and the new additions to Jacob Bell on left guard Orlando Pace back from injury and blocking specialist tight end Anthony Becht on left tight end, the left side should be pretty set for Steven. He broke 1,000 yard rushing this year with a broken offensive line, and 4 games on injury reserve and an additional game he left early. How many yards will he get?
Asked by Grover Roxbury - Thu Mar 13 00:46:05 2008 - - 11 Answers - 0 Comments
A. When healthy both LJ, LT and Stephen are at minimum 1,400 yard 14TD backs. Now, if the o-line stays healthy this year with him you can add an additional 150-200 yards do to the effect of the passing game and the dominate o-line that is often forgotten in STL due to injuries last year. It is not the "greatest show on turf" but it is a solid offense with the ability to run against their division and that will give Jackson many yards this year.

Why do QBs get credit for the yards a receiver gets after a reception?
Q. I was just wondering why a QBs' passing yards includes the YAC (Yards after catch). I think these YAC inflate some QBs numbers. If a QB throws a short screen pass and the receiver or back runs for 40 yards, the QB benefits from the receiver's speed and the blocking from linemen and other receivers and backs.

A. Good point OBE, but on the other hand a QB gets credit for a INT when he may have thrown a perfect pass and the receiver bobbled it into the defenders hand. It works both ways.

A. OK people this is NOT rocket science here! OK the obvious answer is a 2/3 of a yard. The clue here being the word ARM, it is a yard from the tip of one's nose to finger tip, unless you have longer or shorter than average arms, in which case you just grab a yard stick, sold at most hardware stores. OK so anyway, from wrist to shoulder is an approxiamte 2 feet. So ok, it's all on averages, but even in a house, have you ever saw an exact plum wall? I don't think so. So yes the answer is 2/3 of a yard!

Q. I want to make a simple block quilt with three different fabrics. Each block will be 12" square, so in total there will be 54 blocks for a 6X9 quilt. Since I severely suck at math, how many total yards will I need for the quilt top? thank you! I'm not actually a beginner lol. This will be my 6th quilt, but it's only the second one I've made without a pattern. But I am very, very bad with math.

A. 6' x 9' = 72" x 108". Cotton fabric for quilts is usually 42 - 45 inches wide. You can only get three blocks from one width of fabric; nine from one yard. 6 + yards* = 54 blocks. After sewing together with a 1/4" seam allowance, your block will be 11.5". Add 1/2" to each block for a finished 12" block. *Add an extra 1/2 yard for the seams and for the uneven cutting by the fabric store personnel. More tips here -

Q. I want to make a simple block quilt with three different fabrics. Each block will be 12" square, so in total there will be 54 blocks for a 6X9 quilt. What is the volume of this driveway and how many cubic yards of concrete is needed to pave it?
Q. The driveway has a length of 75 feet, width of 20 feet, and thickness of 8 inches (2/3 foot). What's the volume of the driveway in cubic feet and how many cubic yards of concrete is needed to pave the driveway?

A. The driveway slab is a rectangular prism, whose volume is given by length times width times depth (all in the same units). V = 75*20*(2/3) = 1000 cubic feet Since a cubic yard is 3*3*3 = 27 cubic feet, you need to divide this by 27 to obtain the number of cubic yards. V = 1000/27 = 37.037037 = 37.04 cubic yards to the nearest hundredth
